My name is Kat Hammer, and I want you to know a little about me.  When I was 15, I left home, and it changed my life.  I was 17 when I decided I wanted to become a social worker and wanted to help young people who were at risk- I wanted to advocate and champion for youth who had faced similar situations.  In my thirty-five years, I have worked with people experiencing sexual and domestic violence, people with mental health issues, and people experiencing housing insecurity and who become homeless.   Anyone of us can experience these things.  These are not issues that happen to others- they happen to many hard-working people.

As a result of feeling increased frustration with current representation, I decided to throw my hat in the ring.   If I have been dismissed and blown off, I know that others have as well.  It is time to have an elected official who is interested in representing ALL and not just the interests that benefit them. 

I will be accountable to everyone in the community- not just those people who vote for me.  Trust when I say, I would rather listen and be accountable to 23,000 people than deal with one bad boss.  This is not something I would have ever thought I would do.  I am doing it because I know I can do better and will. 

I have grit, determination, smarts, and most importantly, I have integrity.  Character matters!
